Heritage in Schools - Soil Heroes
The Heritage in Schools Scheme provides a panel of Heritage Specialists who visit primary schools to help children and their teachers learn about and appreciate their local heritage. The Scheme supports the stated aims and objectives of the Social, Scientific and Environmental Education (SESE) curriculum and provides an additional educational tool and resource for teachers.
We were delighted to welcome Karen Webster, a local artist and heritage specialist into our class today. She brought some visitors too- soil heroes also know as Worms!!!
We practiced drawing with different hands and drawing from memory to look at lots of details. We drew woodlice, snails, worms and beetles using lots of different pencils, pens and charcoal. All of these creatures are in our gardens! Using these drawings we got a chance to use clay to actually create our own soil heroes.
Fun fact- did you know that worms have 5 pairs of hearts! 🪱 ❤️
